The parent will have shared their hopes, goals and expectations pre-therapy which will allow myself to implement resources and approaches to make these goals more achievable for the child and their family. During the session I will follow the axline‘s pedagogy into our therapy sessions to foster and empathetic environment to explore their experiences in a safe and non judgemental space. In addition to implementing axline‘s principles in therapy, I will adhere to the ethical guidelines outlined by PT UK ensuring the protection and wellbeing of children in my care. Upholding ethical considerations is crucial as it establishes trust, maintains professional standards, safeguards confidentiality and ultimately promotes the welfare of clients.
Please be aware that throughout the process of therapy the child’s behaviour may change. It can be stationary, get better or regress. Emotional outbursts can sometimes be a part of the process due to the child trying to process emotions that may have been previously subdued.
The last session will be a celebration of the journey that the child has been on throughout all of our sessions. The child can pick how they want to celebrate their journey, or if they are struggling with what to choose we usually decorate a vibrant plant pot and plant a sunflower seed as a metaphor for reminding the child about their growth.
Even when the sessions have come to an end, if you are in need of any further advice or support, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
